Title: Studying Cell Motion at the Intersection of Math and Biology
Abstract: One of the characteristics that distinguish living things from non-living things is motility. On the cellular level, the motility or non-motility of different types of cells can be life building, life-saving, or life-threatening. Understanding the mechanics of cell motion can help us learn how to promote or inhibit cell motion. We introduce a mathematical model for cell motion that is able to mimic some of the statistical data gathered in lab experiments and point at a new mechanism that is integral to cell motion.
