Title: Mathematical Modeling of Ubiquitin-dependent Regulatory Systems: Benefits of Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Abstract: Ubiquitin is a small protein that is present in nearly all tissues and has important roles in many cellular regulatory systems. I will describe mathematical models of two such systems: ubiquitin-dependent protein sorting mediated by ESCRTs and ubiquitin-dependent regulation of the yeast uracil transporter, Fur4. In addition to presenting our models and results, I will discuss the benefits of strong collaborations between biologists and mathematicians in developing models and understanding complex systems.
