Speaker: Kurt Overley
Information: Dr. Overley has two decades of experience with alternative investments. He pioneered the hedge fund derivative industry (swaps, notes, and options tailoring the risk/return profile of hedge fund portfolios while containing tail risk) by founding this business at Credit Suisse Financial Products, where he co-launched the SAPIC fund of hedge funds and began his career. Dr. Overley subsequently founded the hedge fund derivative business at Zurich Capital Markets (ZCM), where he created the Javelin fund of hedge funds and the first investable hedge fund indices in a joint venture separate account platform with Hedge Fund Research.
Dr. Overley served as Managing Director and head of U.S. fund derivative structuring for BNP Paribas, after their acquisition of the fund derivative business from ZCM. Following that, Dr. Overley ran sales and trading as a Managing Director for the U.S. and Asian fund derivative businesses of HSBC More recently, Dr. Overley was a partner, co-CIO, and head of risk management for Ranger Investments, a fund of hedge fund business based in Dallas, Texas. He subsequently orchestrated a merger of this business with Signet Investments, another fund of hedge fund business headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Dr. Overley has a Ph.D. in applied mathematics with a thesis in nonlinear constrained optimization from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and has conducted research in particle accelerator design at Los Alamos National Laboratory as part of the Strategic Defense Initiative. Dr. Overley has a B.S. with a double major in mathematics and physics from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, where he was a winner of the national COMAP team mathematical modeling competition and a member of the varsity tennis team.
